"Nika"
In October of 2003 I was in Chicago eating fried catfish with Tabasco sauce at Buddy
Guy's blues club.  I was leaning against the wall near the pool tables when in walked
a large, very ethnically diverse group comprised mostly of people who looked to be
Native-American.  As it turned out, they were of the Haida tribe who live on small
islands off the coast of north-western Canada.  They had just taken part in a
ceremony at the Field Museum where centuries-old artifacts and even remains of
some of their ancestors had just been returned to them.

When I returned home I looked them up on the Internet and found their story to be
quite fascinating.  This song is named for one of the people I met that night. She is an
artist and a drummer and has done much to repatriate her p
eople's belongings and
long-deceased ancestors.

This song is written from the
point of view of one of those ancestors.
